I've been working in the CCS field for the past 3 years. Through my experience I've observed a need
for male mentoring services. I've noticed a disparity in services for men and male youth and I want to help change that. I think its important for men and boys to have healthy role models and learn how to build healthy relationships. Once healthy habits are built, we can work toward making heathier life choices.
My hope is that by working on building a healthy relationships with recipients, that we can build a foundation for creating healthy relationships and boundaries with ourselves and others. I think this is important and helps build future success and allows my recipients to gain skills they can carry with them throughout their lifetime.
Some of my experience comes from raising my own children, and seeing what works and what is effective in helping implement change in their lives. I have adult children and I fall back on 21+years of raising my own kids and the trials and tribulations that come along with that, and still do.
When working with recipients I like to incorporate outdoor time and movement into my sessions. I've found that movement is a great way to help recipients relax and facilitate open dialogue. I also like to use evidence-based practices such as grounding techniques and mindfulness. I build a solid rapport with my recipients by providing stability, consistency, and just being there and showing up every single time.
Five years ago I found martial arts and through that practice I've learned how to calm my mind under pressure, build healthy relationships, and have my own healthy outlet. I enjoy being outside, spending time with my family, travel, and martial arts. I like to go on new adventures and I also enjoy hanging out with my German Shepherd Dog.
